Two new Xbox One nsoles planned for E3 reveal suggests FCC filings

Evidence has emerged that Microsoft is planning to reveal an Xbox One slim model and another brand new console in June.

Rumours have been swelling for weeks now that Microsoft is about to annouce a new model of Xbox One, an ‘upgrade’ that’s more akin to a smartphone update than a brand new console.

Up until now that’s all been based on the easily misinterpreted comments of Microsoft boss Phil Spencer, but now there’s more direct evidence – thanks to US regulator the FCC (Federal Communications Commission).

Any hardware that allows wireless data transfer has to be approved by the FCC and fans have discovered that Microsoft has two Xbox One-related devices filed with them, that won’t be made public until a week after E3 in June.

The detective work on forum NeoGAF is all a bit complicated but what it boils down to is that based on the model number one of the consoles seems to be functionally identical to the current Xbox One.

That suggests it’s the typical ‘slim’ model that usually appears around three years into a console’s lifetime.

The other model number though is new, which implies it could be the much talked about upgrade that is supposedly more powerful than the current Xbox One.

As with everything related to the upgrade consoles it all depends on your interpretation of the limited evidence, but so far everything is pointing towards a significant E3 reveal…
