Who's the April Fool now?
It looks like we're all April Fool's this year. Bandai Namco's prank was a Dark Souls III movie, complete with 80's style VHS box art and special effects. While many of us laughed it off and thought it was a clever marketing move, Bandai Namco was secretly working on bringing their April Fool's prank to life. Well, sort of at any rate. Bandai Namco's UK Twitter account this morning revealed new, downloadable box art for Dark Souls III fans who aren't a fan of the standard packaging.
After some fans requested the VHS box art from the prank video as alternative box art for the game, Bandai Namco set to work to make it a reality. Two short weeks later, and we now have VHS style covers available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and even PC Dark Souls III boxes. The initial tweet only mentioned PC and PlayStation 4 covers, but that's partially thanks to Twitter's 140 character limit. A second tweet followed shortly after the initial links that included Xbox One gamers, so nobody has to feel left out with Bandai Namco's April Fool's prank somewhat becoming a reality.
Dark Souls III is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Make sure you wear pants unless you plan on using a South Park style fart build. PC gamers will also want to watch out for the first bonfire and Firelink Shrine, although the resulting game crash doesn't appear to affect everyone.
