Street Racer on the SNES – what a game! I meant to write in a while ago about this game being the original ancestor of Rocket League, and dadisawewome77’s letter mentioning it in the recent multiplayer Hot Topic just reminded me! We spent countless hours as young teenagers huddled round the TV set playing this game (amongst others) in four-player splitscreen. It was basically a Mario Kart clone but with additional modes and different weapons.
It had brilliant varied and funny characters, each with their own special moves, and one big difference (that I always wished Mario Kart would have added) is that you could slap your opponents as they drove past you, Road Rash style. And the multiplayer modes were great fun. Battle mode where you had to beat your opponent into submission or drive them off the screen, and, of course, the aforementioned football mode. Amazingly, this worked really well, with the ball sticking to you when you drove over it, and trying to score before someone bashed into you and nicked it off you. Great fun.
The makers of Rocket League surely must have been fans too, and I’m surprised no one has mentioned this classic in all the Rocket League love. Anyway, a remake is long overdue, or at least a Virtual Console addition. I would ask for Inbox magic but alas I think it would be in vain. Although I see it was a Ubisoft game so there is a chance. I’m off to pen them a letter to get this re-made.

PS: Hodja was my favourite, with his ability to hover and electrocute people.
GC: We don’t think it was ever very big in the US, which is never a good sign for a reboot.
