Ilios – The Battles of Troy Strategy Game Up On Kickstarter

Back when I was getting my degree in history, I took a class on the ancient Greeks. As part of the class, we read the Iliad (for those that don’t know, the Iliad is the prequel to the Odyssey. For those that don’t know, the Odyssey was what O Brother, Where Art Thou? was based on). While I’m glad to say I read the book, I’m not really wanting to do it again. Thankfully, Ilios looks like a game I’d like to play over and over again (even if I never want to read the Iliad over and over again). It’s up on Kickstarter now.

In the game, players place tiles onto the board in order to gain control of enemy tiles. It’s sort of Othello-like, but each tile has arrows that indicate in which direction your tiles “attack” in. Also, when a tile is fully surrounded, it is taken off the board and scored. So that makes it sort of Go-like. The player with the most points when all the board is full of Control Points is the winner.

The campaign’s just shy of 1/3 of their way to funding with still 17 days to go.
