Fear Effect to return via Square Enix-supported Kickstarter -

Update: The Kickstarter is now officially open, with £12 securing a digital copy of the game.

Original report: Classic PSOne series Fear Effect will return if a Square Enix Collective-backed Kickstarter campaign for Sushee's 'Fear Effect Sedna' is successful.

The game will see the franchise's popular characters Hana, Rain, Glas and Decke return for a new mission with gameplay inspired by Shadowrun Returns, says Eurogamer.

"Fear Effect was back in the 90s and 2000s a triple-A game. Our Fear Effect is an indie game," Sushee founder Benjamin Anseaume told Eurogamer.

"So players have to expect major changes both in terms of the gameplay and the visuals. We are a small team of 10 people. We are not Kronos. We are an indie team. We want to make something that respects the series, but it's not going to be Fear Effect 3. It's going to be a new Fear Effect with new gameplay."

The action will play out from an isometric viewpoint, with players able to control up to five characters - Hana, Rain Qin, Royce Glas and Jacob "Deke" DeCourt are confirmed to return.

Somewhat bizarrely the story will actually follow four years after the unreleased Fear Effect 3, which saw Hana return from Hell and be freed from her Triad overlords. In Sedna Hana is working as a mercenary.

The sexualisation of characters in Fear Effect 2, especially Hana and Rain, will not carry over into the new game.

The Kickstarter campaign will launch on April 12 and is seeking €100,000. The hope is to release on PC in 2017, with console versions also to be developed if certain stretch goals are reached.
