Axe of the Blood God is our weekly RPG podcast hosted by Kat Bailey. You can find the show notes for previous episodes here.
In this week's episode of Axe of the Blood God (download link here), Bob and Phil Kollar return to talk about one of the biggest releases of the spring - Dark Souls 3.
Dark Souls 3 marks a turning point for the series. It's no longer the plucky upstart rebelling against triple-A conventions - it's part of the establishment. That's not a bad thing in itself, but it's fair to wonder if the series isn't getting a tiny bit formulaic at this point. Phil, Bob and I address that question, as well as questions about the performance, how it wraps up the lore, and the changes that have been made to the battle system. When you're done listening to the pod, you can read Phil's review here, and Bob's review here.
Next week: Nadia returns to talk about Bravely Second!
Kat returns to host a review roundtable with Dark Souls experts Bob Mackey and Phil Kollar of Polygon, with topics including the new combat abilities, questions about linearity, covenants, and whether the series is feeling a tiny bit of franchise fatigue.
Music from Axe of the Blood God is courtesy of Lena Chappelle, who has also contributed the themes to Active Time Babble and Roleplayers' Realm. I also use music from the RPG Music Pack over at rpgmaker.net. Check it out!
