Next week will see Splatoon get a sizable update in the form of version 2.First off, however, there will be some maintenance on the game accompanying the update on April 12th, or April 13th for those who live in Europe.

Starting April 23, Nintendo is teaming up with Nickelodeon for their next Splatfest competition, featuring SpongeBob SquarePants, where players will have to pick between SpongeBob and Patrick Star.Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, shared the following:
“Two international pop culture sensations meet when the SpongeBob SquarePants Splatfest comes to Splatoon.
As part of the Splatfest competition, a recurring online competition in which players pick a side and fight it out, players are being asked to pledge alliance to either the titular Spongebob Squarepants, or his starfish companion Patrick Star.Between April 23 at 6 AM PST and April 24 at 12 PM PST, players will battle to determine who in Bikini Bottom is more popular: Spongebob or Patrick.

Last week, Japan saw a relatively quiet week in video game sales with a few minor releases in Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition, République, and Skullgirls 2nd Encore.Media Create has provided us with video game software and hardware sales data from the week of April 11 through April 17, 2016.
Outside of the launch though, Nintendo has key titles lined up for release, with Splatoon 2 hitting in the Summer.We’ve had relatively little news on Splatoon 2 since its announcement, but today Splatoon’s Twitter account, via Nintendo Wire, unveiled a new map you’ll get to play on when the game hits this Summer.
With the release of the Nintendo Switch everyone assumed that the game would be ported over, but people were shocked once again when a full sequel was announced with Splatoon 2.This is where the game would do well to move away from its predecessor a bit, as Splatoon 2 features motion aiming once again.
You can download the demo right now, but the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire won’t actually begin until March 24th, running until the 26th, but only at specific times.The schedule is as follows:

The game is still a few months away from a full release, and now Nintendo has revealed a new map for the game that has an interesting theme.The ESL Splatoon Europe Grand Final was held yesterday and to coincide with the event, a video was played from Splatoon 2 producer Hisashi Nogami.
