The game has been canceled, with full shutdown planned for the end of May.“It is with a heavy heart and an immense sense of sadness that we must announce the end of Nosgoth’s development,” the developer announced today.
Nosgoth, the bizarre Legacy of Kain multiplayer spin-off, is being shut down, Square Enix announced today.Even though I’ve been reminded several times now, I’m always surprised to learn Psyonix, the developers behind Rocket League, were working on it.
The multiplayer game stemmed from a similar component included in Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun, which was in development at Climax Studios.Square Enix canceled that game in 2012, after which it announced it was spinning off Nosgoth into its own release.
Psyonix has done brilliantly with Rocket League but they did have another title in development called Nosgoth and sadly it won’t leave beta.A statement on their forums reads:
“A massive amount of work has gone into making Nosgoth a reality, and continually bringing new developments to the game.
Remember that online, competitive multiplayer Legacy of Kain Spin-off, Nosgoth? The free-to-download game that pit humans against vampires has been in early access for about a year now.
” This meant that the game, which has been in beta testing for nearly two and a half years, will not get a full release. They request that “development options are opened up”, and private servers are at least an option to keep it running.
The game entered open beta in January 2015 but will not make it to a final release, with the beta due to be taken offline for good on May 31, 2016.After that date, Nosgoth will be taken offline for the last time.
