Meizu may not attract as much attention as other Chinese smartphone companies, but that doesn’t mean we should be ignoring it, and the proof comes with the first official picture of the Meizu Pro 6. Shared by Meizu over the Weibo social network, the phone is still unofficial, but not for much longer, as the announcement date has been set for April 13.
Apparently made of metal, the black satin finish has a very attractive sheen, which makes the phone look very sleek and modern. The Meizu brand name sites below the main camera lens, and an unidentified sensor underneath. While instinct may lead us to say it’s a fingerprint sensor, there are rumors it’s a ring-style flash unit. The Meizu Pro 6 wouldn’t be the first to feature a ring flash, Acer fitted one to the Liquid S2, and Motorola has used a similar setup on the Moto X and the Nexus 6. The ring flash may have a laser autofocus module set into the inner circle too.

While this is the first look at the Pro 6, rumors have already spread regarding the specification. Recently, a leaked roadmap may have detailed Meizu’s future plans, and revealed some of the finer details about the phone. For example, it’s likely to have a big 5.7-inch 1080p screen, a 21-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera.
For the processor, MediaTek has already announced Meizu has an exclusive deal to use the Helio X25 processor inside the Pro 6. This deca-core (yep, that’s 10 cores) chip is a slightly upgraded version of the Helio X20. There are also reports the Pro 6 will have 6GB of RAM inside, but others state it’ll be 4GB.
Meizu isn’t waiting around to launch the Pro 6 either, and has started sending out invitations to an event on April 13 in Beijing, where the phone will be revealed. Pictures of the invitation have been shared on the Weibo social networking site, which have the phone’s name emblazoned on them, leaving no doubt that’s what we’ll see. We’ll keep you updated on the device right here.
