MLB World Series Betting Odds: Dodgers, Tigers Favored

The Los Angeles Dodgers have spent more money over the past few years on player personnel than any team in baseball not named the Yankees. The Dodgers have put together an all-star pitching staff, and a strong offensive unit.

All of their hard work in the off-season has led to the Dodgers being the betting favorites heading into the season. Los Angeles has 11/2 odds to win the World Series. With two-time ERA champion Clayton Kershaw leading the Dodgers staff, many analysts have predicted the team will finally win it all.

Behind the Dodgers sit the Detroit Tigers. Detroit also has a pitching staff that analysts are raving about. Max Scherzer won the American League Cy Young award last season, and Justin Verlander has two Cy Young trophies to his credit.

The Tigers moved Prince Fielder in the off-season, and will now move Miguel Cabrera back to first base to make room for Nick Castellanos at third. Castellanos is one of the top prospects in baseball, and adds an offensive punch for the Tigers. Detroit has odds of 8/1 to win it all.

St. Louis, a team always near the top of the betting odds, is the third choice at 9/1. The Cardinals return a pitching-heavy squad, with enough offense to win the NL Central last season.

Washington added Doug Fister to an already impressive staff, and the Fister addition puts the Nationals as the fourth choice, at 12/1. The Yankees, who also have odds of 12/1, have made some of the biggest splashes in free agency, picking up Brian McCann, Carlos Beltran, and several other key starters for the 2014 season.

For those who enjoy taking a chance on the long shots, the betting odds provide several options. The Astros are the longest of shots at 250/1, while the Twins, Cubs, and Marlins all sit at 125/1.
