It seems like it was just yesterday that Amazon was shelling out big bucks for Woody Allen’s latest film, and now the first Café Society trailer is already here. The preview highlights the romantic comedy’s ensemble cast, which includes famous faces like Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Steve Carell, and Blake Lively.
In the trailer, we’re introduced to Bobby (played by Eisenberg), a young man who arrives in Hollywood and is quickly shown the ropes by his uncle Phil (Carell). A mover and shaker, Phil gives Bobby entrée into the industry, teaching him valuable lessons, such as “this whole town runs on ego.” He also introduces him to his assistant, Bonnie (Stewart), who immediately seems to catch Bobby’s attention.

Like any Allen flick, there doesn’t appear to be a clear-cut path to happily ever after for the protagonist. Bonnie has a significant other, and Bobby also shows interest in Kat (Lively) and encounters a woman named Candy (Anna Camp). Naturally, this sets up comedic situations, notably opportunities for Bobby to be gifted wisdom on matters of the heart: “Unrequited love kills more people in one year than tuberculosis,” he is told.
The cast also includes Jeannie Berlin, Corey Stoll, Parker Posey, Ken Stott, Judy Davis, and Paul Schneider. Allen both wrote and directed the romantic comedy, which will premieres next month at France’s Cannes Film Festival. Café Society will later be released in theaters stateside by Lionsgate on August 12, and beyond that, Amazon Prime Video users can look forward to it becoming available for streaming.
While Café Society is Allen’s first project for Amazon to debut, it’s not his only one; the filmmaker is trying his hand at creating a television series. Still untitled, it stars Miley Cyrus, Elaine May, John Magaro, and Rachel Brosnahan, among others.
